Stroudsburg is a more diverse area then my small home town of Hamburg in Berks County. I was chatting with a Peruvian girl at one of my current client's work sites and discussing all her varied hispanic/Latino friends. I told her about my experience in Costa Rica learning merengue, salsa, cumbia and bachata dance styles. I also said I am interested in finding friends to practice Spanish with in Stroudsburg - and eventually bilingual employment! Everyone says it is a great skill to have and high in demand, but so far I see nothing beyond customer service representative positions for $8 to $9 an hour. Where are the non-profit or Latino organiztions in Monroe County? I guess I have to look harder. What about in the courts and the hospitals? Maybe I should look there for freelance translation opportunities. But one thing is true, if you don't use acquired skills - you lose them! Yo necesito practicar mucho.
